Bridgestone Fleet Portal

Designing a real-time system for tracking and managing fleet service operations at scale

Project Overview

Role: Senior Product Designer
Timeline: 2024 – Present
Platform: Web
Users: Fleet Managers, Operations Teams
Scope: Product design, workflows, dashboards, system definition

The Problem

They struggled to:

  • Track where vehicles were in the service process

  • Understand job status across multiple locations

  • Identify delays or bottlenecks

  • Make fast operational decisions

Most workflows relied on:

  • Manual updates

  • Fragmented tools

  • Delayed communication

The Challenge

Design a system that could:

  • Provide real-time visibility into service events

  • Support fleets operating across multiple locations

  • Surface the right information without overwhelming users

  • Help managers quickly identify issues and take action

  • Integrate with existing dispatch workflows

My Role

  • Led design of the Fleet Portal experience from concept through delivery

  • Partnered with stakeholders to define requirements and key use cases

  • Collaborated with product managers to align features with roadmap and priorities

  • Defined dashboard structures, workflows, and data visibility

  • Worked closely with engineering teams to ensure feasibility and scalability

Understanding Fleet Managers

Key needs:

  • Quickly understand what’s happening right now

  • Identify issues without digging through multiple screens

  • Track multiple service events at once

  • Make decisions fast

Designing for Clarity

  • Surface critical information first

  • Reduce cognitive load

  • Enable fast scanning across multiple jobs

  • Provide clear status indicators

  • Structured dashboard layout around priority and urgency

  • Defined how service events are grouped and displayed

  • Created visual hierarchy to support quick decision-making

Key Decisions & Tradeoffs

  • Prioritized clarity over data density

  • Focused on real-time updates vs historical reporting first

  • Simplified complex data structures into intuitive views

  • Designed for scalability across different fleet sizes

The Solution

A centralized Fleet Portal that:

  • Provides real-time visibility into service events

  • Allows managers to track vehicles and job status

  • Surfaces delays and issues quickly

  • Supports decision-making across multiple locations

Key Features:

  • Real-Time Dashboard (Live updates on service events)

  • Status Tracking (Clear visibility into job progress)

  • Fleet Overview (Monitor multiple vehicles and jobs at once)

Impact

  • Improved visibility across fleet operations

  • Reduced time spent tracking service status

  • Enabled faster decision-making for fleet managers

  • Simplified complex operational data into actionable insights

What I Learned

  • Visibility is more valuable than raw data

  • Dashboards should support decisions, not just display information

  • Systems must align across multiple user roles

  • Simplicity is critical in data-heavy environments
